A string of Measures to Protect Personal Information CTM Urges residents to Stay Alert of Telecom Frauds

In view of the recent increasing number of phone and text scams, CTM has discovered deceptive text messages sent in the name of the company that attempted to obtain personal information of customers through fake websites. CTM has immediately reported to the Judiciary Police about these suspicious activities.

 

As the telecom keeper of Macau, CTM spares no effort to protect the security of citizens' personal data and has adopted a string of cybersecurity measures to ensure the stability of the overall communication networks to avoid leakage of personal data. In terms of prevention of fraudulent activities, CTM performs daily monitoring of abnormal network traffic and phishing attacks including phone scams, smishing, email phishing, fake websites and etc., and adopted measures to identify and block them. At the same time, CTM maintains close communication and collaboration with the Judiciary Police to establish mechanisms and joint force to combat telecom-related frauds.

 

CTM would like to urge customers to stay alert of any deceptive emails and phone calls, including setting up call screening on mobile phones and reporting suspicious phone numbers. In the event of receiving suspicious phone calls, text messages or emails, terminate the calls or delete the distrustful messages immediately and refrain from disclosing or verifying any personal information to avoid data leakages and cause plausible damages.

 

CTM reiterates that protecting customers’ data is their priority. In response to the emerging fraud trends, CTM will promptly review and adjust relevant measures, and cooperates with the MSAR Government to combat telecom frauds. Customers if in doubts on incoming calls and texts can inquire CTM directly or seek assistance from the Judiciary Police.
