CTM Activates Typhoon Precaution Mechanism in Response to Approaching Typhoon “Ragasa” Comprehensive Measures in Place to Safeguard Macau’s Communications and Network Services

22/09/2025

Super Typhoon “Ragasa” is approaching Macau and is expected to have a significant impact on Macau and the Pearl River Delta region. As one of the members of Macau’s Civil Protection Structure, CTM has activated its typhoon precaution mechanism since last week. Through comprehensive network protection measures and close coordination with relevant authorities, CTM is fully committed to ensuring the stable operation of Macau’s overall communication services.

CTM stated that, to tackle the potential impact of Super Typhoon “Ragasa” on telecom services, the company has arranged nearly 200 network and engineering personnel in accordance with its typhoon precaution mechanism. Teams have been dispatched to inspect and reinforce core network facilities, mobile cell sites, remote line units (RLU), UPS, and independent power generation units.

For RLUs located in low-lying areas and mobile network cell sites in wind-prone locations, CTM has installed flood barriers and implemented reinforcement measures. Considering the possible severe situation on these vulnerable areas, CTM will conduct real-time monitoring via its Network Management Center and has increased standby engineering personnel. Should customers experience disruptions in telecom services, they may contact the CTM No.1 Hotline: 1000, or use official channels to report issues. CTM will promptly repair the affected facilities as soon as the typhoon signal is lowered, subject to the assurance of personnel safety.

In addition, as power supply may suspend in certain low-lying areas based on actual flooding conditions, CTM has deployed backup power solutions to maintain essential network communication services during power outages. If backup power in some low-lying areas is depleted, telecom facilities in those areas will automatically restart once electricity is restored. Customers unable to access network services are advised to restart their home modems and routers, or contact the No.1 Hotline 1000.

As a member of the Civil Protection Structure, CTM will fully cooperate with civil prevention and maintain close communication with government departments. To meet the high demand for telecom and network services during the typhoon, CTM has coordinated with mainland telecom operators to enhance external transmission bandwidth and will allocate network resources as necessary reserved for civil protection communications and emergency services. CTM urges the public to remain in safe locations during severe weather and make reasonable use of online resources to stay updated of the latest typhoon information.

CTM extends its gratitude to CEM for prioritizing power supply to telecom facilities. CTM team will remain vigilant and dedicated to safeguarding the stable provision of Macau’s communications and network services during the severe weather condition.
