

This afternoon (4 Aug), CTM held an online press briefing in regards of the malfunction incident of partial fixed telephone exchanges. Mr. Declan Leong, Vice President of Network Service, and Ms. Eliza Chan, Director of Corporate Communications hosted the briefing and reported the cause of incident and repair work update.
Leong indicated that CTM has two sets of local fixed telephone exchanges providing fixed line telephone service. CTM Network Management Center detected abnormal performance of fixed telephone service at 3:32PM, following inspection, it was confirmed that malfunction occurred with one of the fixed telephone exchanges, resulting some customers experienced interruption when using fixed telephone service. CTM immediately brought up the issue to the attention of the system supplier to conduct emergency repair. Due to the precision of the system, maintenance needs to be carried out in accordance with the supplier’s procedure, following detailed diagnosis, the affected service was fully resumed at 7:40 pm on the same day.
Leong stated that CTM has been adopting regular health check for all communication facilities. This is the first time such malfunction has occurred to fixed telephone exchange, CTM attached greatest importance to the incident which was escalated to the Global Support Level of the system supplier, requesting expert assistance from the system supplier to carry out related emergency repair.
Said by Leong, this set of local telephone exchange provides fixed line telephone service for about 45,000 customers, and is interconnected with certain local mobile network, while all emergency fixed line numbers are supported by dual exchange solutions.
CTM has appointed dedicated technical team to conduct round-the-clock close monitoring of related fixed telephone exchange to ensure its stable performance and will submitted the incident report to the authority on 5 August. CTM apologizes to the affected customers for the inconvenience caused.
