CTM and MGM Collaborated to Launch the First 5G High-speed Zone at Integrated Resort to Foster Smart Cultural Tourism

Following a rollout of 5G service in Macao, CTM and MGM have joined hands to explore the opportunities of 5G applications. Today, the two companies announced a partnership to jointly establish a 5G High-speed Zone at the Spectacle of MGM COTAI, also the first-of-its-kind 5G infrastructure within an integrated resort in Macao. Both parties will ride on the zone to facilitate the integration of “5G + Cultural Tourism”, employing technologies of 5G and the Internet of Things to inject high-tech and interactive elements into the city’s smart tourism.

Ebel Cham, Vice President of Commercial of CTM, said, “Since its inception over 41 years ago, CTM has been drawing on its technologies to expedite Macao’s development. Following the launch of CTM’s 5G service, the number of our 5G customers has exceeded 60,000, reflecting the eager anticipation of residents and various sectors in Macao. The partnership with MGM to co-build a high-quality 5G zone at the Spectacle of MGM COTAI not only ushers in a rapid 5G mobile communication service for tourists and residents, but also with CTM’s SA technology to establish the first 5G private network in Macau in the properties, also helps MGM create more cutting-edge 5G cultural tourism offerings via online and offline formats. CTM will continue to offer advanced technologies and smart solutions to facilitate the advancement of cultural tourism and the local economy at large.”

Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic & Financial Officer of MGM, said, “MGM has always doubled down on enhancing our technological solutions, aiming to elevate the city’s overall tourism services. This partnership with CTM is among our smart initiatives. It demonstrates the cross-industry synergy integral to the establishment of the 5G zone at the Spectacle, which is also Macao’s first 5G Zone at an integrated resort, designed to offer a high-speed network to our guests. Looking ahead, MGM will continue to make strides in developing more high-tech tourism projects, further consolidating Macao’s position as the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.”

The 5G infrastructure with download speed over 1Gbps at the Spectacle of MGM COTAI is built upon CTM’s full coverage of indoor and outdoor 5G network in Macao as well as MGM’s need for developing “5G + Cultural Tourism” projects. From now onwards, all CTM’s 5G users and roaming-service users can enjoy ultra-fast 5G data transmission at the Spectacle, sharing their great memories online via live broadcasts and videos instantly.
