CTM urges the contractors to ensure the integrity of underground telecom facilities during road construction

 

 

Recently, the underground telecom facilities of CTM have been damaged several times due to road construction work, resulting part of the telecom service at certain districts were interrupted and causing inconvenience to the public. CTM urges the project contractor to supervise the operations and strengthen training to avoid causing damage to the facilities of utility service, ultimately affecting residents’ daily lives.

 

According to CTM, since mid-June until today (4 July), 4 cases of damage to the underground fiber cables have been reported due to road construction work carried out at Ponte No.6B, 5B at Inner Harbour, Rua das Lorchas and Rua do Comandante João Belo respectively. As soon as the incident was reported, CTM technical team arrived at the location without delay and carried out repair work under the conditions of ensuring safety of the site, to resume the affected services to normal at the soonest.

 

CTM urges the relevant project contractors to strictly supervise the operation procedures, to strengthen training and reinforce work standard so as to avoid damaging the facilities during construction and causing inconvenience to the residents at neighborhood. At the same time, it is also expected that the Government entity to demand the contractors to supervise the construction work with careful and thorough guidance to ensure the integrity of utility facilities with the objective of protecting the interests of general public.
